I Am Just a Coat of Paint on the Wall Feat KEIM

The memoirs of a paint that has watched history unfold across nations, ideologies and generations.

I am just a coat of paint on the wall.

For more than a century, I have stood quietly on stone, concrete and brick, watching buildings outlive generations. My purpose was never to speak. It was to protect. Yet, over time, I became a silent witness to history.

The Buckingham Palace in London

I have covered the walls of The White House in Washington, where decisions shaped the course of capitalism and global diplomacy. Across the Atlantic, I have preserved the grandeur of Buckingham Palace, where centuries of monarchy have adapted to a changing world. In Berlin’s Humboldt Forum, I watched a royal palace disappear, ideology reshape a nation, and history rebuild itself once again.

I have witnessed different political systems rise and fall. In Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, art continued to flourish through revolution, Soviet rule and modern Russia. In Schwyz Town Hall and the White Eagle Inn in Switzerland, I have quietly endured since the nineteenth century, proving that some things are built not merely to last, but to be remembered.

Over the years, I realised that no ideology – whether capitalism or communism – can by itself define the quality of human life. Buildings may house governments, but they also preserve culture, memory and identity.

The Sydney Opera House

That is why I also protect places created not for power, but for humanity. I preserve the soaring shells of the Sydney Opera House, where creativity becomes a universal language. I shield the pioneering concrete of Centennial Hall in Wrocław, a monument to engineering ambition.

I defend the façades of Marina Bay Sands, built for a global city that never stops evolving. And at Battersea Power Station, I watched an industrial icon transform into a vibrant urban destination without forgetting its past.

I have learned that the greatest buildings are never defined solely by the people who commission them. They are defined by the lives they continue to embrace.

Yet after more than 145 years, I know that architecture is not simply about walls. It is about the stories they protect, the ideas they outlive, and the generations they quietly connect.

I am KEIM, I am German, I have witnessed my fair share of history across the world and I am here in India now to know more about you. I am long-lasting, so years from now, I’ll still have stories to tell your grandchildren.
